“You crown the years with a bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflows with abundance.” – Psalm 65:11
I served full-time at FEBC for merely a dozen years. But they were the most significant years of my life. It was at FEBC that I began to have a deeper understanding of the meaning of my mother land and my people, and by serving at FEBC my compassion towards my fellow Chinese surpassed the romantic concept in poetry. I became more sympathetic to their struggle and frustration. God used the Tiananmen Square event in 1989 to deepen my sense of urgency for the Chinese to hear the Gospel.
The Executive Director of FEBC-HK and FEBC-Chicago, my mentor at the time, Rev. Kenneth Lo, set for me, a rookie, a firm basis for being in the service of the Lord. Realizing my preference to serve as a program producer, Rev. Lo asked me solemnly: “Did you come here to work on your own hobby, or to serve the Lord?” This question hit me right between the eyes. Rev. Lo succeeded in challenging me and made me forsake my personal preference of being a program producer and plunged me into the new and unfamiliar area of Administration and Development. Rev. Lo’s question that day changed my outlook in life and continued to serve me well in making critical choices in the years ahead. That question helps me choose what pleases the Lord. Through His servant Rev. Lo and the Tiananmen incident, God spurred me on to dedicate my heart to His Kingdom.
Rev. Lo explained that it takes the right coach to produce winning athletes. Maybe I am one of the athletes he trained. Many years ago I left FEBC-Chicago, but by God’s grace I remained on the path of serving Him. Six years ago, God placed me in the inner city of Chicago, serving as the headmaster of Pui Tak Christian School in Chinatown. I used Christian values to serve a multitude of Chinese families. I modeled my mentor Rev. Lo, asking God to let me coach others, mentoring students and colleagues to become winning athletes for the Kingdom.
From its start in 1945, FEBC has been bringing Christ to the World by Radio. Now in the digital age, FEBC is Bringing Christ to the World by Media. Repeatedly we see evidences of God’s amazing greatness. He is also very gracious to me. After parting with FEBC for years, the connection to the Kingdom not only remains firmly attached, He enlarged my scope, letting me rejoin the greater family as a board member of FEBC-US, giving me opportunities to continue serving on a different level to bring the Good News to people who have not yet heard.
